ATLANTA — Johnathan McCrary (Clark Atlanta) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Zavondric Shingleton earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Wednesday.
Vicente Luis Juan Pena (Lane) was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week.
McCrary led Clark Atlanta to a 32-29 win over Mississippi College on Thursday night at the Panther Stadium. The 6-foot-5 senior quarterback from Decatur, Ga. finished the week rushing 50 yards with two touchdowns. With his longest pass being 32 yards, McCrary finished with a total of 243 passing yards in the Panthers feat against the Choctaws.
The Panthers will continue their home stand as they face conference opponent, Central State on Saturday at 7 pm.
Shingleton, a 6-foot-4 senior linebacker from Millen, Ga., led the Golden Rams to a 29-12 upset against Valdosta State University. He finished the week with six tackles for a loss of 11 yards and two sacks for a loss of five yards.
The Golden Rams will travel to Phenix City, Ala. to participate in the annual White Water Classic as they will take on No. 22, and conference opponent, Tuskegee University at 5 pm.
Pena assisted the Dragons to a 40-20 win over Texas College last week. The 5-foot-11 junior from Temple City, Ca finished the week averaging 41.7 yards per punt, including his longest being 45 yards. Additionally, Pena scored a 51-yard field goal at the end of the first half.
The Dragons will travel to Atlanta, Ga. to face, a conference opponent, Morehouse College on Saturday at 6 pm.
