CIAA Football Honors: Week Four

For the week ending September 24, 2017.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
#78 Victor Tamba, Bowie State
(Sr, OL – District Heights, MD)

Tamba assisted his Bulldog teammates in accounting for a Bowie State school record of 748 yards of total offense in Saturday night’s 76-7 blowout of the Shaw Bears.


  QUARTERBACK OF THE WEEK
#6 Amir Hall, Bowie State
(Jr, QB – Bowie, MD)

The reining CIAA Offensive Player of the Year, put on another amazing performance in Bowie State’s home opener on Saturday night, torching the Shaw Bears defense with 420 passing yards and tied his own school record of six passing TD’s. He completed 22-of-33 passes (no interceptions) with his longest being an 80-yard touchdown.

 
 


  RECEIVER OF THE WEEK
#18 Gustavious Dames, Virginia Union
(So, WR – Miami, FL)

Dames caught 7 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a punt 62 yards for another touchdown.

 


  OFFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
#25 Trent Cannon, Virginia State
(Sr, RB – Hampton, VA)

Cannon continues to be a standout for the Trojans after catching three passes for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Cannon also led the Trojans on the ground, rushing 21 times for 155 yards.
 


  DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
#5 Sterling Hammond, Virginia Union
(So, DB – Caret, VA)

Hammond had five tackles and an interception against Fayetteville State.


LINEBACKER OF THE WEEK
#17 Karl Calhoun, Virginia Union
(Sr, LB – Sanford, FL)

He recorded a team-high 15 tackles in VUU’s 47-40 win over Fayetteville State University, including two tackles for a loss of two yards.
 


  DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
#41 Chasz Cosby, St. Augustine’s
(Sr, DE – Charlotte, NC)

Cosby recorded 7 tackles including 3.5 sacks in an 81-9 win over Lincoln (Pa.). He finished with 4 tackles for loss. His sacks tie for the third most nationally in Division II this season.

 


  SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#47 Gene Carson, Bowie State
(So, LB – Accokeek, MD)

Carson likely had to ice his leg down after Bowie State’s 76-7 win against Shaw as he went a perfect 10-for-10 in PAT’s and added field goals of 28 and 25 yards on Saturday evening. Carson also averaged 56.2 yards per kickoff and had one touchback.

 


  ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
#47 Dre Terry, Chowan
(Fr, LB – Roanoke Rapids, NC)

The freshman linebacker led the Hawks with 13 tackles as Chowan’s defense harassed Livingstone quarterbacks by dropping them for eight sacks.

 

 


  COACH OF THE WEEK
Reggie Barlow, Virginia State
Head Coach Reggie Barlow led the VSU Trojans to a 33-27 overtime victory against the WSSU Rams. Continuing on their “Embrace the Grind” mindset, the Trojans are currently 3-0 in the season, 1-0 in the CIAA conference.
