CIAA Football Honors: Week Nine

For the week ending October 29, 2017.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
#76 Diontae Jordan, Bowie St.
(Sr, OL – Bladensburg, MD)

Playing his final regular season game in Bulldogs Stadium, Jordan was rated the top offensive lineman for Bowie State, helping the team account for 562 yards of total offense.


  QUARTERBACK OF THE WEEK
#6 Amir Hall, Bowie State

(Jr, QB – Bowie, MD)

Hall and most of his Bulldog starters played slightly over two quarters of action in Saturday’s 86-14 Homecoming thumping of Lincoln (PA). Hall completed 14-of-19 passes for 238 yards and tied his own school single-game passing touchdowns record with six.

 


RECEIVER OF THE WEEK

#18 Lansana Sesay, Bowie St.
(Jr, WR – Bowie, MD)

Sesay pretty much simply outran the Lincoln (PA) secondary on Saturday, hauling in four receptions for a game-high 139 yards, scoring touchdowns of 39 and 48 yards


 

 

 

 

OFFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
#25 Trenton Cannon, Virginia State
(Sr, RB – Hampton, VA)

Leading the charge offensively for the Trojans was senior Trenton Cannon who rushed for 164 yards and collected two touchdowns on 26 carries, becoming Virginia State’s all-time leading rusher, currently holding 3,672 career yards. He also broke his own school record for most rushing yards in a season, currently with 1,280 yards. Cannon completed the competition with a total of 184 yards.


  DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
#8 Jaleel Scroggins, Shaw
(Fr, DB – Raleigh, NC)

Freshman Jaleel Scroggins (Raleigh, NC) led the Bears defense with 13 total tackles, including 12 solo, one tackle for loss and an interception in the loss at Winston-Salem State.


LINEBACKER OF THE WEEK
#8 Keshawn James, Fayetteville St.
(Fr, DE – Cayce, SC)

Keshawn James had a game-high 13 tackles against Livingstone with three stops for a loss of 11 yards.
 


  DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
#56 Jerrell Timmons, Elizabeth City St.
(Sr, DL – Florence, SC)

Timmons finished yesterday’s game against Virginia Union with a total of 4.5 tackles, including 3 sacks for 35 yards, 4 tackles for a loss of 38 yards, a breakup, and a quarterback hurry. He and the Viking defense held Union high-powered offense to only 98 total yards in the first half of yesterday’s 37-21 loss to VUU.
 


  SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#23 William Flowers, Bowie St.
(So, DB – Baltimore, MD)

Flowers accounted for 186 all-purpose yards, returned two punts for touchdowns (89 yards and 43 yards) and added two solo tackles in Bowie State’s easy win over Lincoln (PA).


ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

#8 Jaleel Scroggins, Shaw
(Fr, DB – Raleigh, NC)

Freshman Jaleel Scroggins (Raleigh, NC) led the Bears defense with 13 total tackles, including 12 solo, one tackle for loss and an interception in the loss at Winston-Salem State, Saturday, Oct. 28.

 

COACH OF THE WEEK
Richard Hayes, Fayetteville State
Richard Hayes has once again coached his team through adversity to defeat Livingstone 28-26 on the Blue Bears homecoming. After the team jumped to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, the Broncos relaxed. After falling behind 21-26 late in the third quarter, Hayes orchestrated a game-winning drive with 1:30 left in the game.
