CIAA Football Honors: Week 10

For the week ending November 5, 2017.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK

#70 Bryan Redmond, Bowie St.
(Sr, OL – Upper Marlboro, MD)

Redmond was a key hub in the Bulldogs offensive front, helping his teammates amass 742 yards of total offense (443 rushing and 299 passing) in Bowie State’s win at Elizabeth City State.


  QUARTERBACK OF THE WEEK

#6 Amir Hall, Bowie State
(Jr, QB – Bowie, MD)

Hall threw for 299 yards, completing 17-of-25 passes and one touchdown in Bowie State’s 77-21 romp over Elizabeth City State in the regular season finale.

 
 


RECEIVER OF THE WEEK

#1 Andre Price, Lincoln (PA)
(Sr, WR – Rialto, CA)

Andre, in his final game in a Lincoln uniform, recorded a career-high seven receptions for 148 yards including a 37-yard touchdown catch.

 


 

 

 

 

OFFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK

#2 Robert Chesson, Bowie St.
(Sr, RB – Annapolis, MD)

Chesson had a record-setting afternoon in Bowie State 77-21 win at Elizabeth City State, rolling up a BSU Single Game school record 304 rushing yards on 20 carries, scored seven rushing touchdowns and caught one TD pass. The seven rushing TD’s were a new BSU Single Game record and also ties the CIAA Single Game record for rushing touchdowns. Chesson also set a new CIAA Single Record for Most Points with 48.

 


  DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK

#8 Carlo Thomas, Johnson C. Smith
(Sr, DB – East Orange, NJ)

Became the JCSU career interception leader with two INTs in JCSU’s 27-14 win at Livingstone. His returned his first INT 30 yards for a touchdown and his second INT thwarted an LC drive that sealed the win for the Golden Bulls. He also finished with seven tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss against the Blue Bears.


LINEBACKER OF THE WEEK

#51 Seth Johnson, Fayetteville St.
(Sr, LB – Charlotte, NC)

Seth Johnson led the 23-22 win over WSSU with 13 total tackles and one quarterback hurry, that forced several WSSU drives into punt situations.
 


  DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK

#56 Jamaal Tutt, Johnson C. Smith
(Sr, DL – Atlanta, GA)

Tutt finished with eight tackles, 2.5 sacks (8 yards) and 3.5 tackles for loss (11 yards) in JCSU’s 27-14 win at Livingstone.
 


  SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

#47 Gene Carson, Bowie St.
(So, LB – Accokeek, MD)

Carson’s leg got a serious workout in Bowie State’s huge 77-21 road win at Elizabeth City State, going 11-for-11 in PAT’s and averaged 58.8 yards per kickoff with two touchbacks.


ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

#18 Bryce Witt, Chowan
(Fr, QB – Sutherland, VA)

Completed 11-16 passes for 128 yards. Posted 4 total TDs (3 pass, 1 rush)

 

COACH OF THE WEEK

Richard Hayes, Fayetteville State

Richard Hayes and the Broncos accomplished several feats in its 23-22 win over Winston-Salem State. 1. FSU overcame a 22-7 score to win the game with 30 seconds left in the contest. 2. The last time FSU won a Southern Division title was in 2009. 3. The last time FSU beat WSSU was in 2004. 4. FSU only had 183 yards of total offense to the Rams 442 yards. 5. After starting the season 1-4, the Broncos are on a 5-game win streak.
