CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), with its Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association, announces the 2017 CIAA All-Rookie Football Teams.
Elvin De La Rosa (Fayetteville State University) and Donshel Jetton (Fayetteville State University) highlight this season’s rookie squad as Defensive and Offensive Rookies of the Year.
Freshman defensive back Elvin De La Rosa of Fayetteville State University has been announced this year’s Defensive Rookie of the Year. De La Rosa accounted for 40 total tackles, including 18 solos, for an average 4.0 tackles per game. He recorded one interception and one sack on the season, which assisted in the overall victory over Winston-Salem State University to help FSU advance to the 2017 CIAA Football Championship.
The 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year is running back Donshel Jetton of Fayetteville State University. The freshman finished the season with 503 rushing yards, an average 50.3 rushing yards per game. Jetton has scored 6 touchdowns overall with a career-long kickoff return of 80 yards.
On Saturday, November 11 the Trojans of Virginia State University will take on the Broncos of Fayetteville State University for the 2017 CIAA Football Championship title. The contest will kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET at Salem Stadium in Salem, Virginia. Tickets are now available through Ticketmaster. The game will broadcast live via the ASPiRE TV Network.
