This president denies that he sent sexist, bigoted, and racist tweets on social media just as he has denied that he used the word S***hole nations, while the National Football League silently denies tampering with Colin Kaepernick’s football career. The NFL and the 45th President of the United States are strange bedfellows.
We all should be outraged by the behavior at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but we are not. We all should be pushing back against this right-wing ideology but we do not. Colin Kaepernick warned all of us a year ago about the dangers of social injustice.
Mr. Trump still ascended to the White House with his vile narrow political racist viewpoint of the world and with the aid of the majority of NFL owners who contributed to his 2016 campaign.
There has been an all-out racial, political, social, and economic attack on people of color coming from the White House. This attitude has also infiltrated the National Football League where Black players and players of color cannot speak their minds; they are ordered to shut up and play the game.
Former San Francisco 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been called a cancer; a pariah, a malcontent, just as Craig Hodges, John Carlos/Tommie Smith, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Curt Flood have been in various stages of their careers. All year long white fans have ridiculed and chastised kneeling Black athletes while at the same time paying money to watch these same players on the field. If their teams win they are content, if not they want them all fired…
Kaepernick started the ball rolling for racial, social, political and economic justice. Now we as political activists have to take the ball across the goal-line for a touchdown. We have to change this conversation again from the national anthem, our armed forces, the flag, and national pride to the real issues of police brutality, equality, justice, and freedom.
The President continues his minority bashing in the meantime calling countries he does not like S***hole countries, El Salvador, Haiti, and the continent of Africa; many of the current NFL players come from these countries. The president would rather have immigrants from Lily-white Norway- question how many Norwegians play football? (Not soccer-American football).
Senator Cory Booker Senator Harris
This week New Jersey Senator Cory Booker could not have said it better to (DHS) Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielson, ” That offensive language festers when ignorance and bigotry are alive with power, it is a dangerous force in our country. Your silence and your amnesia is complicity.
Right now in our nation, we have a problem. I don’t know 73 percent of our time is spent on White supremacist hate groups. I don’t know if 73 percent of your time is spent concerned about the people in fear in communities in this country Sikh Americans, Moslem Americans, and Black Americans. The fact pattern is clear of the threats in this country.”
Number 45 attacked Black players over the summer by stating they should be fired for kneeling during the National anthem, these players were exercising their right to free speech. White America did not approve and made it known to their new leader in the White House, Donald J. Trump. They still think it is disrespectful, but it’s o.k. to fly the Confederate Flag, a flag of rebellion against the United States, really?
The NFL threw money at the problems that Kaepernick brought forth. The owners will be sending money to minority organizations for the next ten years but they failed to address the race, economic, and social issues that plague this country.
We are now seeing the parallels not just of slavery but of the gladiator mentality, strong healthy Black men are sacrificed for entertainment. Now think about the Roman Empire and the present day football field. Is there a difference? Players are dying from CTE issues but they still playing the game and still making the revenue for the 99.9 % white owners-(overseers .) Just as in Rome, just as the slave trade, the strongest continue, while the others die from their injuries.
The man in the highest office in our country can act like a class jester and nobody bats an eye or utters a concern. The man is a class bully and demands to be heard every single day. He does not believe in political correctness, civility, or politeness. He makes outlandish statements whether they are true or false. It has infiltrated the sports world with the banishment of Colin Kaepernick from the National Football League and the ridicule of protesting players lead by the President of the United States and the majority white fan base.
The NFL with their conservative ownership continues to try to control the spin, control the image. The Dallas Cowboy owner told his players they would all stand for the anthem no matter what they thought about Colin Kaepernick or they would not be Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones released two players who did not follow those unspoken rules. Defensive linebacker Damontre Moore and David Irving left the team after they raised their fists at the Green Bay game at AT & T Stadium.
These two players obeyed Jerry’s rules of standing for the anthem but still got punished and released from the Dallas Cowboys. Question what happened to the NFLPA? The Union was silent and the Dallas Cowboys continued the season without those players. Question: Did these players break NFL rules? NO!!!! They did not even break Jerry Jones’s rule. Power and control.
Another southern owner told his star Black quarterback to never date a Caucasian woman and do not get a tattoo, wow, has an owner ever told a white quarterback to not date a Black woman or get a tattoo, NO!!!! The freedom to associate with whoever is taken away.
African-American players have taken this all in stride and continued to play the game they love.
It is the dignity of the African American football players, the Haitian, and African peoples this White House and the National Football League could learn from. It’s a dignity the president and the football owners with all of their money and all their power could learn from as well.
The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King would not be pleased and would state that we have so much work to do.
We are one people, one race, one country, we either live together in peace and harmony or die divided The United States of America has a choice.
