NEW YORK — Many have talked about Roger Federer still going strong at the tender age of 37. Well, there is a player on the WTA Tour who is still going strong at age 38.
Venus Williams is incredibly ranked no. 14 in the world and is still competing at a very high level.
The 6-foot-1 right-hander has earned over $40 million in earnings and is second all-time to her younger sister, Serena. Her net worth is a staggering $95 million.
She won the U.S. Open in 2000 and 2001 and will be competing for the 20th time starting August 27. By all accounts, it is her favorite Major, as she loves competing before her legion of fans in New York.
She has a lifetime 76-16 record in singles at Flushing Meadows.
In 2018, Venus played her 1000th career match and earned her 20th Fed Cup singles win. Earlier this season, at Indian Wells she defeated Serena for the 12th time in her carer and in straight sets for the first time since the 2008 Wimbledon final.
Venus was ranked No. 1 in world doubles in 2010, competing with Serena. Is she the favorite to win the Open? No, but if form holds true, she could very well make it to the second week and once again thrill her many New York fans.
Don’t count her out to play for the United States at the Olympics in 2020 in Tokyo.
