Here are the BASN Newsroom/Batchelor Pad Radio Network HBCU Football All-Peak Performers of the week for the games played through October 20th.

DIVISION I (FCS)

Offense: Tennessee State redshirt junior quarterback Micheal Hughes completed 22-of-27 passes for 318 yards and three touchdowns as Tennessee State defeated Tennessee Tech 41-14 on Homecoming. It marked the second-straight game Hughes reached the 300-yard plateau. He threw a 33-yard touchdown pass on the team’s first play from scrimmage and added a seven-yard score in the second quarter and a 20-yard strike in the third quarter. Hughes ranks 12th nationally in completion percentage (65.9%) and 23rd in passing efficiency (146.8).

Defense: Alcorn State redshirt junior linebacker Terry Whittington turned in an all-around game for the Braves on Saturday in their 33-26 victory over Grambling State. He notched career-highs of 15 tackles, six tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble. The 4.5 sacks came close to the school record of five set by Bryant Mix in 1995 against Texas Southern. Whittington’s previous career-highs were 10 tackles, three tackles for a loss and a sack.

Special Teams: Grambling State senior kicker Marc Orozco had a record-tying game despite the Tigers’ 33-26 loss to Alcorn State. He collected 14 points (four field goals and two extra points) and tied the SWAC All-Time mark in points previously set by GSU’s Brian Morgan. He also booted a career-long 52-yard field goal in the first quarter. Orozco will likely break the mark Saturday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff with either a field goal or extra point.

Newcomer: Howard freshman defensive back Zamon Robinson finished with eight tackles (four solos) along with a pair of tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in the win over Morgan State.

Coach: Mississippi Valley State’s Vincent Dancy saw his Delta Devils snap a nine-game losing streak dating back to last season as they defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 48-47 for their first win of the season.

DIVISION II

Offense: Tuskegee junior quarterback Ahmad Deramus played his most efficient game of the season connecting on 12-of-18 passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns including three in the first half to three different receivers. His dominant play led to a 37-0 Western Division win over Kentucky State.

Defense: Morehouse College senior defensive tackle Kamari Jones-Hunter anchored a defense that helped the Maroon Tigers snap Benedict’s five-game win streak and hold the Tigers to only 196 total yards in Morehouse’s 14-10 victory. He finished with a game-high 13 tackles (seven solos), three sacks and four tackles-for-loss in the win.

Special Teams: Lane College senior specialist Vicente Pena connected on three of four field goals including the game winner with 10 seconds from 35 yards. The Dragons defeated the Golden Bears of Miles College on Senior Day. He also connected on field goals from 40 and 37 yards for the victory.
